Enlightenment is not an attainment; it is a realization. When you you wake up, everything changes and nothing changes. If a blind man realizes that he can see, has the world changed? - Dan Millman
Arriving at Studio Brown last night I again met Andy Reed, a songwriter from Bay City. I listened to what they had been working on. After listening to this very good work, I suggested that they take their atmospheric cue from The Girl From Ipanema.
We then got to work on She Loved the Circus. This mostly involved editing my vocals. You need to come to an understanding that vocal editing is now a way of life. No re-singing a line to get it right, now everything can be nudged to be more rhythmically correct or pushed to the correct note. We take great care in not being perfect. But no one leaves things as they are anymore.
The above recording is an example of imperfect perfection. The female singer, Astrud Gliberto, would now have her vocal tuned and rhythmically perfected – at least to some degree. No producer/mixer would be able to stop themselves. But it is this achingly imprecise delivery that is so wonderful; so beautiful. You fall in love.
