The truth is at the bottom of a well. You look in a well, and you see the sun or the moon, but if you jump in, there’s no longer the sun or the moon; there’s the truth. – Leonardo Sciascia

Eddy Arnold died on May 8th. He is an importation character in my deep past. I listened to him sing (or heard my father sing his songs) in the womb. Make the World Go Away, one of my favorites written by Hank Cochran has a great chorus:

Make the world go away and get it off my shoulders
Say the things you used to say and make the world go away

It only has two verses; the chorus is sung three times and then you are out. It is perhaps these simple songs that have had the greatest influence on me, for good or bad.

Here is an older Eddy singing it.
